“Red Alert” at Universal Hollywood

Universal has described their new Fan Fest Nights as a mashup of their popular “Halloween Horror Nights” with Comic-Con, promising to “take fandom to a whole new level.” The first event kicks off on Friday, April 15 and continues with select nights through Sunday, May 18, 2025. The first Fan Fest Nights features new “uniquely curated experiences” from Star Trek as well as Back to the Future, Dungeons & Dragons, One Piece, and Jujutsu Kaisen. Tickets went on sale this morning.

Here is the official description of the Star Trek experience:

Star Trek: Red Alert—Inspired by the Star Trek universe that has entertained millions of fans, this daring walk-through experience will boldly take guests on an immersive adventure aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D on a mission to prevent an interstellar threat. Guests will find themselves transported to the year 2403, just as an otherworldly entity wreaks havoc on the ship. As the chaos ensues, guests will venture further into the Enterprise, navigating familiar Star Trek environments, from the ship’s engineering room to transporter pads, to the soul of the Starship Enterprise, the bridge—an original set piece featured in the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard—in a desperate quest to stop the perceived danger and restore peace aboard the ship. Laden with special effects, audio-visual effects, multi-sensory activations and themed performers, this all-original experience will create an unforgettable, awe-inspiring moment that will elevate Star Trek fandom to new levels.

According to Universal, Fan Fest Nights guests “can tap into their inner fandom to join forces with their favorite characters while sharing their enthusiasm with like-minded fans as they engage in cosplay with such renowned favorites as Star Trek.” This includes interactive activations throughout the theme park, including live entertainment, cosplay and photo opportunities. Together it’s all being touted as an “energetic block party,” built for fans.

The other themed experiences include “Back to the Future: Destination Hill Valley,” which brings guests to the actual backlot set where the film was shot to “travel back to 1955 Hill Valley” with a visit to Courthouse Square, including a recreation of the famed Clock Tower lightning strike. The “Dungeons & Dragons: Secrets of Waterdeep” allows guests to have an adventure exploring the lair of the legendary beholder Xanathar, populated with animatronic monsters built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Fans of anime will be able to enjoy the “One Piece: Grand Pirate Gathering” and “Jujutsu Kaisen: Hunger of the Cursed” experiences.

Eat like a Trekkie

Themed food and beverages accompany each of the themed experiences, created just for the event by Universal Studios Hollywood Executive Chef Julia Thrash. TrekMovie was invited to an early preview for Fan Fest and was able to sample “Vulcan Fritters” (falafel) and “Klingon Targ Legs” (pork).

For desert, you can try the “Tribble Truffle Trio” (coconut balls).

And to drink, they also have developed three Trek cocktails: Romulan Ale (with vodka), Andorian Ale (with gin), and Ceti Eel Margaritas (non-alcoholic, with little eel gummies).

We also got a first look at some the new merchandise that will be available for each fandom exclusively at Fan Fest.

More to come

We will post updates with more details on “Star Trek: Red Alert” and Universal Fan Fest ahead of the event as well as a detailed review of the experience in April.
