‘The Acolyte’ Action Choreography Team Break Down Season Highlights, Including New Fighting Styles and a Wookiee Jedi

The fifth episode of The Acolyte brought the lightsaber action we were all craving for in a show set during the time with the most Jedi around we’ve had in live-action Star Wars yet. “Night” was the payoff to the cliffhanger from the previous episode, and it did not disappoint. The mastermind behind it, action director Christopher Clark Cowan, recently talked to StarWars.com about his work on the series. Cowan is no stranger to the franchise, and had previously worked on another widely praised lightsaber-heavy sequence from the Disney era — the now-iconic Darth Vader scene in Rogue One. He, along with stunt coordinator Mark Ginther and assistant fight coordinator and stunt choreographer Lu Junchang, who also served as Manny Jacinto’s double, discussed key moments in the series so far. T...

Dengar – ‘Star Wars’ Character Spotlight

Welcome to our Star Wars Character Spotlight, where we take the opportunity to highlight the supporting and tertiary characters that pop up across the various different Star Wars eras who deserve a bit of love. This week, we’ll be looking at Dengar. Dengar is everybody’s favorite bandaged bounty hunter, well known among Star Wars fans for his cameo appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. Since then, his character has been expanded on in comics and novels, as well as a small appearance in The Clone Wars animated series.  Dengar wasn’t much respected by his peers, and was widely considered to be a rung below Boba Fett and Bossk in terms of skill level among bounty hunters. That didn’t stop him from bragging about his past exploits, though there was often some debate as to the truth of his ...

‘Andor’ Season 2 Reportedly Hires Ben Mendelsohn

Deploy the garrison! Ben Mendelsohn is reportedly making a comeback as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story antagonist Orson Krennic in the Disney Plus series Andor. According to The Playlist, Mendelsohn will be returning as Krennic closer to the end of the show’s run with its second and final season. At what exact point is not clear, but considering that each three-episode arc of the series covers a year of Cassian Andor’s exploits in the fledgling Rebel Alliance, it is more likely than not that his appearance won’t happen until the last three episodes of the series, which directly lead into the events of Rogue One. Indeed, the director of those last three episodes is the one who spilled the beans about Director Krennic. The Playlist discovered this bit of information while talking to director...

2008 Movie ‘Acolytes’ and ‘Star Wars’ Fan Film Accidentally Review Bombed by Unhappy People

The Acolyte has been the subject of a lot of controversy this week. Its latest episode introduced some new lore that potentially contradicts some long-held beliefs among Star Wars fans about the ability to create life with the Force (it likely doesn’t contradict anything and will probably be explained in future episodes, but don’t let that stop some people from getting ahead of themselves). Such has been the uproar that some of the haters have taken to Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB to review bomb The Acolyte — an unfortunate development in modern fandom that doesn’t paint a true picture of what the majority of fans actually feel — with the series currently sitting at a 16% audience score. It still has an 84% rating with critics. However, some overzealous viewers have failed to check what pro...

‘The Acolyte’ Cast and Crew on That Iconic ‘Star Wars’ Line, Character Influences, Fight Choreography, and More

Following the release of yesterday’s two-episode premiere of The Acolyte, cast and crew sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about their characters and some of the surprising or perhaps not so surprising dialogue elements in the first two episodes. If it wasn’t already clear to fans that showrunner Leslye Headland is a major Star Wars fan herself, it’s abundantly clear after watching the first couple episodes, which include all sorts of homages to the films from an “opening crawl-like” initial set up to wipe transitions and a thematic score at times very similar to John Williams’ music, just to name a few. Regarding the dialogue, she also included none other than the famous “I have a bad feeling about this” line, and apparently, had to fight quite a bite to keep it in the show. Sh...
